Insurance Claims

Claim filing, shop choice, deductibles, rental coverage, and supplements.

Q1.How do I navigate the claims process?

Start by filing a claim through the claims phone number on your insurance card, or through your insurance company's mobile app or website. During that process, the insurance company may ask you to upload photos in real time and may use them to write a preliminary repair estimate.

Q2.Can I choose my own repair shop?

Yes. Insurance companies may suggest specific preferred shops, but you can choose your own auto body shop. The insurance company cannot force you to use one of their shops.

Q3.What if my vehicle was already towed to one of my insurance company's preferred repair shops?

You can still get your vehicle moved to your shop of choice.

Q4.What if my insurance company tells me that I won't have a warranty if I don't use their preferred shop?

That is not true. Mike's Auto Body offers a lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own your vehicle.

Q5.What is a deductible, and how does it work?

A deductible is the amount of a covered claim that you agree to pay out of pocket before your insurance coverage applies. For example, if your repair is $3,000 and you have a $500 deductible, insurance pays $2,500 and the $500 deductible is due to the body shop when repairs are completed.

Q6.Does insurance cover a rental car while my vehicle is in the shop?

It depends on your policy. If you carry rental car reimbursement coverage, your rental car expense is covered up to the time, daily limit, and maximum dollar amount listed in your policy. If you are a claimant, you may be entitled to loss of use, meaning you may be reimbursed or the at-fault insurance company may direct bill a rental company.

Q7.What if the initial estimate does not include all damages?

While your vehicle is at the shop for repairs, Mike's Auto Body performs a thorough disassembly to identify missed or hidden damage not included on the initial estimate and submits a supplement to the insurance company.
